ECE – Rooms 136 and 140 IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR OUR UPCOMING EVENT: v TASTE OF SABIN, next Friday, May 15th, 5:00-7:00 p.m. · All of ECE will be doing a 10-minute (or less) Animal Movement performance on the stage, in the Auditorium at 5:10. Your child should be in their classroom by 5:00. We are asking, if possible, all of the students wear a shirt/clothing with an animal/animal print on it. (It is not necessary to go buy anything.) If need be, a plain, colored shirt would be fine. · We do realize that the rest of the School will be having their Field Day that day. So, if you have another child participating in that and with the performance in the evening, it makes for a really long day for the children (and parents and teachers!). Please have your child rest before coming back to school. We are all in this together and we want everyone to participate in this great event! · Each family should bring in an appetizer dish to share! · Mrs. Parker is the Taste of Sabin organizer, so we would really like to have all the children participate in this event and performance. Thank you! v THANK YOU On May 22, 2015, we will be having our Fun In The Sun Day. Since we will be having many children in attendance during these activities, we are asking for parent volunteers to assist with setting up, cleaning up, running some of the activities and helping with the transitioning of groups between activities. We will have a sign-up sheet for these areas. We have a couple of activities that require the use of kiddie swimming pools; if you have one that you are willing to lend us (for the whole day), please let us know (lending at your own risk! J Four ECE classes will have used them by the end of the day!). There is sign up for lending a pool as well. In class, we’ve been reading several versions of the "The Gingerbread Man." The last story we’ll read is "The Gingerbread Baby;" at the end of this story, the gingerbread baby is trapped inside a gingerbread house . We’re going to do a project that goes with this story . For this project, each child is required to have an adult come to school to help them ( it can be a father, a grandfather, an uncle or an older sibling. If you have an extra available family member, let me know, please! We have some kiddos who’s parents cannot get off of work and will need a helper). We will build and decorate a gingerbread house using cookies, candies and icing. The project is scheduled for Friday, December 19 at 1:30 p.m. To make these little houses , choose a few things from the list of ingredients and bring them to school before December 18. Also, each child will need a piece of carboard (like the lid of a shoe box ) on which they can build the house and a few plastic knives to use with the frosting. Thank you ! List of Ingredients ( choose two or three things to bring to school - remember there are 16 children and we will share all the ingredients ) . The top two are the ones we need the most of. * boxes of graham crackers crackers * White icing (in cans, for cake decorating ) –the icing CANNOT be " Whipped " ( this does not dry and the candies slide off the houses). * aluminum foil Candy: M & Ms ( big bag) Skittles ( big bag) Candy Canes (small) Red Hots Chocolate chips marshmallows (small) Gum Drops Cake decorating frosting Any other candy that you think will work to decorate the houses. Dear Parents,
One of our IB units is year long learning about our families and the customs/traditions/holidays that our families celebrate. The holiday season is upon us! Please think about what holiday customs your family has for Thanksgiving and Christmas (and Hanukah, Ramadan, other). Here are a lot of questions to get you thinking: Do you decorate your home using things passed down from older relatives? Do you bake/cook particular foods especially for a holiday? Do you use special dinnerware? Does your family take a yearly holiday photo? Do you wear special clothing? Do you take a holiday trip? Do people regularly visit you for the holidays? Is there an activity that your child looks forward to? Do you open presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Does your family always do the same thing after the holiday meal (watch a certain movie, play a certain game)? Does your family do a special activity while waiting for dinner (playing football or other game, setting the table, singing)? Does your child write (or dictate) a letter to Santa? Do you visit Santa? Do you go and cut your own Christmas tree? Do you choose and buy your Christmas tree together? Do the people in your neighborhood get together? If any of these sparked an idea, please let us know if you’d be willing to share! Either by coming in and talking with the kids (bringing something tangible that they can see/touch/taste is always good!) or sending something with your child for him/her to talk about (prep your child for this!!). Thanksgiving is first…so let us know of any Thanksgiving traditions that you’d be willing to share the week of November 17-21! Then think about other holiday traditions that you'd be willing to share in December. THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! |
