IMPORTANT
If your child is still missing their physician’s statement of good health, after October 1st, they will not be able to continue to attend ECE until we have one on file. The document needs to be filled out and signed by a doctor. This is following state law. We've sent home three notifications if your child is missing this form. Thanks for your cooperation in getting them in ASAP! :) September 25 (English) 12:45 p.m.
Colorado Bright Beginnings will be presenting ways to support your child's physical, emotional and intellectual growth before and during the first years of their lives. The session will last about an hour and will include many freebies!...and I'll be providing cookies! :) If you have specific questions on how to develop oral language, discipline, independence bring them! We’ve had a good start to the ECE school year. Everyone is adjusting to the routines and expectations of coming and being in school. Some children take a little longer in gaining the confidence of being without family with them at school, but everyone has made progress!
We’ve spent the first couple of weeks learning the rules of the class, school and playground. We’ve also been learning how to take care of the things in our classroom. We read stories and sing songs every day! (Ask your child what their favorite book from school is! What’s their favorite song?) We’re practicing recognizing our names and learning the name (and sometimes sound) of the first letter. This website has many great ideas for name recognition: http://handsonaswegrow.com/35-name-activities-for-preschoolers/ At the end of the month, we will start our first IB transdisciplinary theme is How We Express Ourselves; we will learn about emotions and feelings and how to make and be a friend. In Math, we will be working on counting (out loud and of objects), making groups and describing how they are alike or different from each other. You can help at home: count how many steps you have as you go up or down them, how many steps from the kitchen to his/her bedroom, how many people in your family, how many TVs are in your house, etc…) An important part of ECE is oral language development. We want to develop their capacity to express themselves clearly and with growing vocabulary skills. You can help at home! Ask your child: “Which center did you play in today?” “What did you do in that center?” “Whom did you play with?” “What was one of the books the teacher read today?” “What was the story about?” “Who was the helper today?” Etc. Another expectation is that all children will speak in full sentences at all times. Any response your child gives can be expanded into a full sentence. For example, if you ask, “What center did you go to today?” and your ECE child responds, “in the house.” You say, “Say, “I played in the house.”” And then ask more questions to keep the conversation going. We do it at school and we know that it can get exasperating but it really works when the child is provided the language model to copy; it eventually becomes second nature to them to answer in a full sentence (and for you to require that of them!) At home, you can also reinforce recognizing and writing your child’s first name. Many kiddos have a hard time grasping the pencil correctly (using a three finger grip: thumb, pointer and middle fingers), if your kiddo is really struggling to hold the pencil correctly, take an old crayon and break it in half (or a little more) so that the only way it can be held is in a 3 finger grasp.
