Dear Parents,
One of our IB units is year long learning about our families and the customs/traditions/holidays that our families celebrate. The holiday season is upon us! Please think about what holiday customs your family has for Thanksgiving and Christmas (and Hanukah, Ramadan, other). Here are a lot of questions to get you thinking:
Do you decorate your home using things passed down from older relatives?
Do you bake/cook particular foods especially for a holiday?
Do you use special dinnerware?
Does your family take a yearly holiday photo?
Do you wear special clothing?
Do you take a holiday trip?
Do people regularly visit you for the holidays?
Is there an activity that your child looks forward to?
Do you open presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
Does your family always do the same thing after the holiday meal (watch a certain movie, play a certain game)?
Does your family do a special activity while waiting for dinner (playing football or other game, setting the table, singing)?
Does your child write (or dictate) a letter to Santa?
Do you visit Santa? Do you go and cut your own Christmas tree?
Do you choose and buy your Christmas tree together?
Do the people in your neighborhood get together?
If any of these sparked an idea, please let us know if you’d be willing to share! Either by coming in and talking with the kids (bringing something tangible that they can see/touch/taste is always good!) or sending something with your child for him/her to talk about (prep your child for this!!). Thanksgiving is first…so let us know of any Thanksgiving traditions that you’d be willing to share the week of November 17-21! Then think about other holiday traditions that you'd be willing to share in December.
THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
